James H. Gallatin, 1105 South Michigan avenue, died at his home at 3 a.m. today following a six weeks illness. He had resided in Davenport since 1922 and was engaged in the decorating-contracting business.

He was born in Mercer county, March 8, 1878, and was educated in the schools near Chillicothe, Mo. He married Elizabeth Willard Feb. 17, 1901. Mr. Gallatin was a member of the Calvary Baptist church.

Surviving are his wife; five daughters, Mrs. William Shirley of Mercer, Mo., Mrs. Cecil Hogan, Mrs. William Woehrle and Mrs. Carl Keding, all of Davenport and Mrs. Lou Graves of Burlington; four sons, Elmer of Hastings, Nebr., Glen of Marengo, Ia., Virgil of Los Angeles and Marvin of Pearl Harbor, Honolulu; 15 grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. I.C. Cox of Kansas City; Mrs. W. Anderson and Mrs. Sam Thompson of Chillicothe and Miss Gladys Gallatin of Chicago; and five brothers, John, Charles and Ed all of Chillicothe, William of Chula, Mo., and Claude of Kansas City. A son preceded him in death.
