Myrtle Whitehead Thompson was born March 17, 1936 in Clarksdale, Mississippi to the late Reverend Jodie and Myrtle Whitehead. She was the second child of their union that brought forth 4 Brothers and 4 Sisters. Sammie (Delois) Whitehead, Mable Reed, Lillie Jefferson (Julius deceased), Sally Johnson, Eddie (Lynn) Whitehead, Bobby (Rosalyn) Whitehead, Sandra Faye (David) Mitchell and Jodie Jr. (deceased). Her brothers and sisters love her dearly as well as her sister-in-law Jennifer (Wilson) Graham. She met Donald Thompson and they were united in marriage August 9, 1953. Myrtle and Donald were married for 45 years until his passing. From this union, two sons and 4 daughters were born.
Myrtle was a wonderful daughter, loving wite and a great sister. She was a loving kind, caring and dedicated mother and grandmother. She dearly loved her children. But oh, how she loved her grandchildren & great grandchildren. She found joy whenever they were around her. She loved watching them stay at her house. Most of all she loved hugging, holding and kissing the babies!
One of her favorite things was watching DVDs and old movies. She loved the singers Maxwell and Luther Vandross and listened to their music often.
The lord blessed myrtle with unconditional love, faith in God and longevity. She was able to see all of her children go to college and marry.
She became a grandmother of (16) Christopher, Alyson, Michael II, Cara, Amber, D’Biane, Iman, Christian, Daniel, Sierra, James Jr., J’Quante, Darnell, James, Donald and Brandon. She was the great granddaughter of (11), Chanelle, Jada, Kanyla, Keyontae, Kanyal, Miracle, Elijah, Victoria, Dallas, Tomorrow and Ivy.
Myrtle was a Lifetime Member of First Baptist Church of Woodlawn until her homegoing on December 7, 2020. She loved and was greatly loved by the First Baptist Church family. Myrtle always had great faith and trusted in God for the many blessings, healings and covering over her and her family. She served in many capacities, a trustee, missionary and mother of the church. She was a very faithful and dedicated member. She loved decorating the outside of the church with beautiful plants and flowers. She was a honorary member of the Word of Life Ministry Christian Center. They loved her dearly. She was one of the Mothers of the neighborhood of Woodlawn. She touched the hearts of many she encountered.
Myrtle leaves to cherish her memory six children Donna (Jimmie) Odom, Donald (Myrtle) Thompson Jr., Catherine Gaines, Michael Thompson, Denise (James) Givens, and Pamela (Rodney) Ellis. Also, a host of Nieces, Nephews other relatives and friends. She loved everyone. She will be greatly missed.
