Jose Zarate, 75, went home to our Lord June 15, 2018, at his residence in San Juan.

Mr. Zarate was born and raised in Edinburg and lived in San Juan most of his life.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Leogadia Zarate; brother, Sabino Zarate; and three sisters, Guadalupe Lozano, Consuelo Wells, and San Juanita De Leon.

Mr. Zarate is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Maria Zarate; six children, Joe (Belinda) Zarate, Jr., Hermelinda (Carlos) Zarate, Joel (Norma) Zarate, Benjamin (Dora) Zarate, Javier (Hilda) Zarate, Elizabeth Cavazos Zarate, all of Edinburg; eighteen grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; brother, Felipe Zarate of Houston; three sisters, Juanita Quintanilla of Edinburg; Maria (Fred) Tellez, and Jesusa (Lolo) Tellez, both of Elsa.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary Monday, June 18, 2018, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Funeral services will take place at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 19, 2018, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Edinburg.
