Obituary
James Joseph Watt, 87, Muncie, passed away Monday evening, December 14, 2020 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital.
He was born May 7, 1933 in Muncie, Indiana, the son of the late Alexander and Herma (Yates) Watt. Jim grew up in Muncie and was a member of Burris High School class of 1951. Soon after high school Jim proudly served three years in the United States Navy. After returning from the Navy Jim began his career as a barber at Varsity Barber Shop where he cut hair from 1954 to 1963. In 1963 Jim decided to go out on his own and opened Watt's Rosewood Barber Shop before selling the business in 1971. In 1969 Jim went to work at Borg Warner as a gear cutter/grinder putting in 20 years of labor prior to his retirement in 1995. Not being one to sit at home Jim picked up odd jobs here and there such as driving tour buses for Econaway Tours and delivering school buses. Jim always found a way to stay busy and give back and one of his ways of giving back to his community was working as a fireman for the Yorktown Volunteer Fire Department. During his time at the fire department Jim was given the rank of Captain before he retired from the department in 1991. It wasn't until April of 1990 when Jim finally found a home and started working part time for Parson Mortuary, Inc. Jim has been a fixture at Parson Mortuary and has played an important role in helping care for and serve numerous families for the past 30 years.

Jim was a member of Yorktown Church of the Nazarene, UAW Local #287, Moose Lodge #33, American Legion #321 Yorktown, Yorktown Volunteer Fire Department, Yorktown Lions Club and the Central Indiana Old Car Club.

He is survived by his son, Tony A. Watt, (wife-Sherida), Yorktown; daughter, Connie King, (husband-Terry), Warren, Michigan; special friend, Kaye Smith; six grandchildren, Jeremiah King, (wife Heather); Shaun King, (wife Ashley); Jesse King; Jarod Watt, (wife Kristy); Aubrey Strait, (husband Jeff); Matthew Watt, (wife Lexi); and fourteen great-grandchildren.
