GARNER- June Casper Cates, 83, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, died peacefully on Monday morning. A native of Vance County, she was the daughter of the late Willie and Maude Moore Casper.

Funeral services will be held 10:00am Thursday, December 17, at Bryan-Lee Funeral Chapel, Garner with Rev. James D. Reynolds, officiating. Burial will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park.

She was a beloved member of the Garner community for 45 years with many friends who became like family. June was an active member of Aversboro Road Baptist Church, working with GA’s, Acteens,WMU, youth department, and many of the committees at the church.

She loved being creative and was always finding ways to serve her community well. She loved creating flower arrangements, baking and cake decorating, sewing, as well as painting. As a young person, she loved dancing. In her spare time, she played the piano and flute. She enjoyed entertaining in her home. Christmas was always so special, she and Charles hosted her Sunday School class and extended family Christmas parties for many years. She got so much joy from making others happy.

June loved being a wife, mom, and grandmother. She and Charles have been an amazing example of love for their children. She was always supportive of all of Charles’s ventures. June was able to make everyone feel loved and welcomed, and made a loving home for her children’s friends and extended family feel welcomed. She raised her family with Christian worldview and instilled Christian values into their lives. June loved the Lord and wanted to share her light with the world.

She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Charles H. Cates, Jr.; daughters Shirlene Cates Elliott and her husband Tim of Clayton, Cindy Cates Snipes and her husband Adam of Hampstead, and son, Michael Cates and his wife Alissa of Garner; Grandchildren:Kathleen Elliott Winslow, Cameron Elliott, Jaydon Campbell, Christina Snipes, Abigail Snipes, and Marty Cates; Great Grandchildren: Alice Winslow and Meredith Winslow; brother Don Casper of Cary.
