PHILLIPS HOWARD E.
Age 92, of Mt. Lebanon, passed away on Monday, November 12, 2018. Born in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of August E. Phillips and Thelma Weil Phillips (Diller); the loving husband for 63 years to the late Lois Schiffner Phillips; and cherished father of Sharon, Howard, Jr. (Jane), Douglas (deSales), Scott (Rosa); and 10 grandchildren. Howard enlisted in the Navy in 1943 at the age of 17, as a Flying Midshipman. He was deployed with fighter squadrons on six carriers, and had a service total of 232 arrested landings. He served for seven years, and then joined the Naval Reserves for five years. He was always an active, strong supporter of Naval Aviation. After leaving the Navy, he graduated from engineering and law schools, and founded a real estate development company with regional offices and projects in 12 states. In 1990, at age 65, he was thrilled to have the opportunity to fly a Russian MIG 29, meet with some of Russia's best pilots, and participate with them in two air shows. Howard enjoyed playing tennis, skiing, and especially spending time with his grandchildren at Deep Creek Lake. Family and friends will be received Thursday, November 15 from 6:30-9:00 p.m. at BEINHAUER FUNERAL HOME, 2828 Washington Road, McMurray, PA 15317. A Memorial Service with military honors will be held on Friday, November 16 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ United Methodist Church, 44 Highland Road, Bethel Park, PA 15102. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Clair Hospital Foundation ("In Memory of Howard E. Phillips"), 1000 Bower Hill Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15243. The family would like to thank everyone at Providence Point and Three Rivers Hospice for the personalized care of their father.
