Henry Lee Austin, III was born on September 2, 1950 in Mocksville, NC, by the late, Henry Lee Austin, Jr. and Flossie Mae Austin. Henry grew up in Far Rockaway, NY and graduated from Far Rockaway High School in 1967. Henry attended one year of college in Winston Salem, NC. On December 11, 2020, Henry Lee Austin, III passed away at Piedmont Henry Medical Center, Stockbridge, GA at the age of 70.

Henry Lee Austin, III is survived by his children: son: Henry Terrell (Araceli) Austin of Loganville GA; daughters: Tanya Denise Austin Thompson of Loganville GA, Tawanda Dechelle (Renauld) Gresham of Lawrenceville GA, and India Danielle Austin of Deltona FL; and siblings: Elaine A. Austin of Ellenwood GA, Judy C. Scarborough, of Houston TX, Sandra G. Austin of Deltona FL, Yvonne O. Austin of Deltona FL, and Patsy Austin-Gatson (Travis) of Suwanee GA.

Henry is survived by 4 Aunts: Mary Nelson Austin-Whitsett/Philbert of New Jersey, Mabel Austin of New Jersey, Hazel Austin-Cromwell of Pennsylvania, and Sara Austin-Rose of New Jersey. Also, he is survived by 13 grandchildren, 4 nieces, 7 nephews, 13 great-nieces, 8 great-nephews, 4 great-great nieces, and 11 great-great nephews.

Henry was a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force where he served 2 years and 4 years in the U.S. Air Force Reserves. After military Henry relocated to Mocksville, NC. Henry retired as a telecommunication technician from Bellsouth/ATT after more than 25 years. Henry was proud that he and Sheryl (mother of Tanya, Terry, Tawanda) opened the first black owned neighborhood grocery store (Austin’s Grocery) in Mocksville, NC in the late 70s. Henry was a very generous person and enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and family. He enjoyed watching Westerns, repairing things, repairing Cars, volunteering at the Boys and Girls Club, going to the Beach and Mountains, swimming, fishing, bike riding, drag racing and Nascar.

A memorial service for Henry is scheduled for 11:00am on December 19th, 2020 at Gregory B. Levett and Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory - Gwinnett in Lawrenceville, GA. Graveside burial ceremony will take place at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA. Flowers and condolences can be sent to Gregory B.
