Doris Lillian Gilbert Baker

July 15, 1924 – December 10, 2020

Doris Lillian (Gilbert) Baker stepped into glory on Thursday, December 10, 2020. Reunited with her parents, siblings, and two of her beloved daughters, Doris came face to face with her savior Jesus Christ.

On July 15, 1924, Doris was born to Ida Luro (Harrell) and Walter Raymond Gilbert in Humble, Texas.

She grew up attending church and singing at family gatherings. In 1941, Doris graduated valedictorian of Charles Bender High School (Humble). She would use her education to create a work ethic applied to her family and her career. On June 24, 1945, she married Sterling Baker, and together they raised three daughters.

Doris had a long career working for the Boilermakers Local Union No. 74 spanning over 45 years. She would work full time until she was 80 years of age, adapting to the changing times by learning to use a computer and commuting to the office two hours per day.

The most outstanding quality of Doris's life was her love for people and willingness to help meet the needs of her family, friends, and sometimes strangers. This trait stemmed from her deep love for her Savior, Jesus Christ. Ready and always willing to share this love with all those that crossed her path.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents Ida Luro (Harrell) and Walter Raymond Gilbert, her brothers Carl Gilbert and his wife Vesta (Taylor) Gilbert, Dickie Gilbert, Charles Ray Gilbert, and his wife Jeanne (Lounsberry) Gilbert, her daughters Doris Sterlene (Baker) Ramsey and Margaret Lynnette (Baker) Thompson.

Doris is survived by her loving husband of 75 years, Sterling Baker, daughter Lou Marie (Baker) Leslie and husband Roy Leslie, son in law Doug Ramsey, and son in law Bill Thompson.

Seven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren and growing.

A graveside service will be held at Brookside Cemetery (13747 Eastex Fwy, Houston, TX 77039) on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at 1:00 P.M.
