Thomas, Susan Irene (nee Farrar) of Powhatan Virginia passed on December 9, 2020 at of pulmonary hypertension resulting from polycythemia vera. She was born in Granite City Illinois on December 17, 1950 into a family of six brothers who all preceded her in death. Her parents, John Dow Farrar and Velma Irene Farrar, preceded her as well. In the mid-1950's her father passed and the family moved to their heritage home in Salem, Missouri. She was the most beautiful ray of fall sunshine ever to grace an Ozark Mountain oak that one could imagine. Sue attended Salem Public Schools through the eighth grade before moving to Belleville Illinois for her high school years; graduating from Belleville High School East. Following graduation she was employed with the Shickadance Insurance company before beginning her long tenure in service with the federal government and the State of Delaware, both from which she retired. She was a very highly regarded and awarded employee. She obtained her certification as a Certified Professional Secretary in 1985. This very unique distinction placed her at the apex of her profession and ensured she was a highly sought after employee throughout her career. Family was so important to Sue. Her six brothers, Don, Bill, Paul, Jerry, Bob and David enjoyed doting on their only little sister. She frequently looked fondly on her time with her nephew Brad, playing badminton, going to his basketball games and playing board games - Shenanigans was a family favorite. Sue enjoyed traveling, especially to West Virginia, Tennessee, Vermont and New Jersey; including day trips to locations in nearby states. Juried Craft Shows were one of her greatest adventures. The beauty and intricate craftsmanship displayed by the artisans was something she truly cherished experiencing. She discovered casino Black Jack on her first wedding anniversary in Atlantic City, New Jersey which she relished playing with her daughter Autumn and husband Ken. Sue’s other interests included award winning counted cross stitch where she was a blue ribbon winner at the Delaware State Fair for nine consecutive years. She also won a blue ribbon at a national craft show held in Illinois in the latter 90's with her Amish Farm exhibit piece. She advanced her many interests into creating her own cards during her retirement years. Her knowledge of card making was immense. Her portfolio will be donated to a local organization that opens this joyful pastime to others. Sue had the immense love of her daughter Autumn Thomas of Rising Sun Maryland, her soon to be son-in-law SSgt. Brandon Reiter (United States Army) and her husband MSgt. Kenneth V. Thomas, Jr. (United States Air Force Ret.) who she married on January 22, 1981. Her transition was peaceful, like her love for us. Her family and friends are at peace knowing we will be together later as the Lord has ordained for us. There will be interment services in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Salem Missouri at a later time.
