He was born in Hamden, CT on December 18, 1923, son of Alex and Eva Sterling and was one of five children. He was predeceased by Abraham, Julius, Florence (nee Alpert) and Robert. He is survived by his three children Jane (Michael) Swirsky, John (Cathie), Peter (Laurie); his four grandchildren Alison (Jeff Miller), Jessica (Justin Masterman), Max Sterling, Sam Sterling, and predeceased by Alex Sterling. He is also survived by his three great grandchildren Spencer Miller, Chloe Miller and Olivia Masterman.
Charlie was a graduate of Yale University. He interrupted his college career to fight in World War II. He then came back and completed his college education. He enjoyed travel, golf and spending time with family. He was so proud of his children and grandchildren's accomplishments and loved hearing about all the adventures in their lives. He was a long time scrap dealer in New Haven and served on many professional boards and associations. After he retired from the scrap business he spent many years as a real estate developer in New Haven.
