Larry Keith Bates Jr., 43, of Pascagoula, MS, passed away on Friday, December 11, 2020. Larry was born on August 23, 1977 in Gulfport, MS. He was a dedicated teacher and enjoyed teaching his many students over the last 10 years. He was deeply passionate about history and was proud to be State Teacher of the Year for National History Day. He founded the Pascagoula School District debate team, coached football and soccer, and enjoyed being able to announce at football games. He will be remembered most for the love he had for his children.
Larry was preceded in death by his grandparents, Shelby Dunnaway Byrd, Luther H. Rushing, and Robert H. and Barbara Ann Bates and step-grandfather, George H. Byrd.
He is survived by his wife, Jeryn Bates; children, Kaleigh Ann Bates, Ella Bates, Loxley Bates, Bryson Bates, Lawson Bates, and Brinkley Bates; parents, Larry K. (K.C.) Bates Sr. and Darlene Rushing Bates; brother, Robert Charles (Michelle) Bates; step-brothers, Keith (Elizabeth) Barrett and David (Tammy) Barrett; in-laws, Stewart and Cindy Frederic; aunts and uncles, Linda and Steve Moody and Bobby and Jackie Bates; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A graveside services will be held on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at Machpelah Cemetery in Pascagoula, MS beginning at 11:30 a.m. with Father Everardo Mora-Torres “Padre Lalo” officiating.
Heritage Funeral Home, locally owned and operated in Escatawpa/Moss Point, MS is in charge of arrangements.
