Funeral services will be held at a 1:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Mamou on Monday, December 14, 2020 for Lois Dougia, 81, who passed away on Friday, December 11, 2020 in Mamou.
Father Billy Massie will be celebrant of the Mass and will conduct funeral services.
Burial will take place in the New St. Ann’s Cemetery.
Lois Dougia was born in Mamou, Louisiana on September 8, 1939 to Austin and Agnes (Fontenot) Manuel.
Lois was a devote Catholic and was an adorer for adoration. She was very devoted to St. Theresa and endured her suffering in silence as offertory for the souls in purgatory. Lois lived a very peaceful life and instilled in her family the importance of offering pain, misfortune, and disappointments to God for the repentance of sins. She was an elementary teacher by trade for 30 years and taught French immersion classes in many Evangeline Parish schools. When not working, Lois enjoyed the outdoors, watching and feeding birds, gardening and camping. Lois also enjoyed reading, going on vacations and decorating her home. Her greatest joy was that of spending time with and taking care of her family. Lois will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by her family and friends.
Lois is survived by her husband of 62 years, Robert Lee Dougia; three daughters, Jan Guillory and husband, Tony of Mamou, Dana Morales and husband Donny of Vidrine, and Kayla (Dougia) Kettell and husband, Adam of Madison, Alabama; three grandchildren, Denee’ Soileau, Danielle Ardoin, and Caitlin Marshall; three step grandchildren; four great grandchildren, Gage Guillory, Lainey Beth Soileau, Drew Soileau, and Bre Ardoin; seven step great grandchildren; and one brother Jasper Manuel and wife, Madeline of Eunice.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Austin and Agnes (Fontenot) Manuel; brother Burkeman Manuel; and sister-in-law Marilyn Manuel.
The family request that visitation be held at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Mamou on Monday, December 14 from 9:00 AM until time of service. A rosary will be prayed in Lois’s honor on Monday at 12:00 PM.
