James Thomas Dickinson, age 68 of Inver Grove Heights.

The Mass of Christian Burial for James Thomas Dickinson, Inver Grove Heights, MN, will be held on Tuesday, December 15, 11:00 AM, at Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Oakdale, MN.

Jim passed into glory on Monday, December 7, at the age of 68. He was born on April 30, 1952, in Minneapolis to Jim and Hjordis Dickinson. He attended elementary school in Minneapolis before his family moved to Moorhead, MN. He graduated from Moorhead Senior High School and earned Bachelor of Arts Degrees in Social Work and Political Science from Minnesota State University Moorhead.

He married his high school sweetheart, Mary Koeplin, on May 30, 1975. He will be most lovingly missed by her, their 2 children, and 3 granddaughters.

Volunteering since his teenage years, he was committed to the care and advocacy of vulnerable individuals with special needs. Jim would invite Mary on dates when he was scheduled to work with these most cherished friends.

Jim's abundant empathy and thoughtfulness were limitless. After his cancer diagnosis, the following was presented by the Owner/Manager of Success Homes at his final connection with their group homes: "I also want to recognize Jim's unwavering compassionate, caring, and kind soul. Not just for the people we serve at Success Homes, Inc., but also how much he has touched each and every one of us by just being the amazing angel that he is. Jim's cup is always full. Jim finds the absolute best in everyone he crosses path with and makes everyone feel better about themselves and life in general with his kind words. Jim has an amazing way of working with each of the individuals we serve. He is always kind, com passionate, and his heart and soul are filled with love If this whole world could give a quarter of the kindness Jim gives, what a happy, kind, peaceful world this would be. I can say that Jim has inspired me personally to try to remember to always be kind, compassionate, and loving to people in my everyday life. I certainly haven't mastered it as Jim has, but he is my inspiration."

Jim had been employed since 2002 at First Children's Finance, a nonprofit, as the Loan Fund Manager. His work with child care providers was valued by his coworkers and employer through his diagnosis and until the day he passed. Throughout his life, he volunteered for many professional and community service leadership positions. Yet, his deep faith and spiritual life took precedence over all.

Jim is survived by Mary; children Christine (Thomas) Piersma, Minneapolis, and Travis (Brianne) Dickinson, Inver Grove Heights; granddaughters Kathryn, Eleanor, Madeline; brother Wade Dickinson (Mei), San Francisco, CA; and brother-in-law Jon (Mary) Koeplin, Glendale, AZ.
