Jon Michael Burks was born to Perry and Luverne (Gruendemann) Burks on February 7, 1959, in Sleepy Eye, MN. He grew up in Hutchinson, MN, where he was baptized and later confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church. Jon attended elementary and graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1977.
At a young age, Jon started tinkering on cars and enjoyed racing, especially dirt track races. Following graduation, Jon started volunteering on the Hutchinson Fire Department and also worked at 3M. He later took a job at Doosan's Bobcat in Litchfield. For the last few years, he was driving truck and doing farm work for Jay Johnson Trucking and driving for Willmar Bus Service.
In August of 1978, Jon married Lorie Bemis. They had two children, Rochelle and Michael. He later married Lori Sawyer in August of 2000. Jon was united in marriage to Laurie (Bendel) Tonsfeldt on July 19, 2014.
Jon enjoyed traveling; some of his favorite spots included a fishing trip to Canada, vacations in Mexico, California, North and South Carolina, and many cruises around the Caribbean, especially Jamaica. Jon was well known for his love of cooking, especially grilling and smoking summer sausage and other meats. Jon enjoyed volunteering at Svea Lutheran Church where he was active on the church council, serving as president, and he also cooked meals for numerous church plays and dinner theaters. He was a great supporter of his wife's LuLaRoe business, enjoying the interactions with customers and making new friends.
Jon was a loving husband, father, grandpa, "pops" and friend.
He leaves behind his wife of six years, two children and their families, two brothers and two half-siblings, and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
