Anniston - Funeral services for Mr. Terry H. Hodges Sr., 87, of Anniston, will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 28, 2012, at Golden Springs Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. Roland P. Brown officiating. Interment will follow at Forrest Cemetery in Gadsden. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday evening at K.L. Brown Memory Chapel in Golden Springs. Mr. Hodges passed away on April 25, 2012 at NE Alabama Regional Medical Center. Mr. Hodges was born in Odenville and raised in Gadsden. He attended public schools in Gadsden and at the age of 18, Mr. Hodges enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country during World War II in North Africa, Italy, The Philippines, and Japan. Following the War, he attended and graduated from Jacksonville State University with a B.S. degree and later graduated from George Peabody College with a M.A. After college, Mr. Hodges coached for one year in Hokes Bluff then moved to Florala and coached for two years. In 1954, he moved to DeKalb County, Ga. and began coaching at Druid Hills High School and finished his coaching career after nine years as the head football coach at Tucker (GA) High School. He then transferred to the DeKalb County Board of Education and served as Coordinator of Athletics and Physical Education until his retirement in 1983. In 1990, he was inducted into the Jacksonville State University Athletic Hall of Fame and was selected one of the 100 greatest athletes in the first 100 years of the University. He was also selected as a member of the All-Century football team. Mr. Hodges was a member of Golden Springs Baptist Church and the Fishermen's Sunday School Class. He was a Mason, a member of the Tucker Lodge 42, a Scottish Rite Mason, and a member of Yaarab Temple Shriner's Club. He was also a member of the Calhoun County Quarterback Club. Mr. Hodges is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. B.S. Hodges, of Gadsden; a brother, Bart Hodges, of Austin, Texas; and a sister, Barbara Becraft, of Huntsville. Mr. Hodges is survived by his wife, Doris E. Hodges, of Anniston; a son, Terry H. Hodges Jr., of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; several nieces and nephews.
