Melvin LeRoy “Mel” Harvey, a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed from this life to his eternal home at 7:20am on April 23, 2012 at the Bridge Hospice Care Center with his family by his side. He was born on December 27, 1934 to Harold and Mary (Smith) Harvey. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carolyn (Bame) Harvey, and his children; Barbara (Daniel) Ratliff of Germantown, Ohio, Sharon (Daniel) Rayle of Fostoria, Curtis (Heike) Harvey of Moncks Corner, SC, Ronald (Belinda) Harvey and Patricia (Scott) Bakies both of rural Findlay, seventeen grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister Eve (Millard) Timmons, of Kenton and two brothers, Marion Harvey of Findlay and Norman Harvey of Columbus. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954. He retired as a truck driver from Garner Trucking Company. He loved playing the rhythm bones and entertaining at nursing homes. He also loved to cook and his noodles were his grandchildren’s favorite. Mel was a member of the United Methodist Church in Van Buren. A memorial service will be held at 7:00pm on Thursday, April 26, 2012 at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, with Pastor Charles Fuerstenau officiating . The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00pm prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Van Buren United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 86, Van Buren, OH 45889 or Bridge Home Health and Hospice, 15100 Birchaven Lane, Findlay, OH 45840.
