Gertrude was educated in the Dobson Schools and at Meredith College, where she received a degree in Home Economics. Afte college she taught in Dobson for a while.Gertrude was a staunch member of the Baptist Church and of the Democratic Party. She organized the Woman's Club in Dobson and served as its first president. She also served as District President of NC Woman's Club. She was a gracious and charming hostess with a great sense of humor. Her personality was such that she was at ease with anyone of any station.∼She married10/13/1919 to Alonzo Dillard Folger SR. He was a congressman from Surry County,NC. They had two children Alonzon D. Folger Jr. and Thomas Lewellyn "Jack"Folger.
