Jerry was born in McCloud,California, May 24,1943, to Milton and Audrey Foster, the third of three children. He grew up in Burney, California where he developed his lifelong passion for the great outdoors. He met his high school sweetheart, Sherry ,in 1959, and graduated from Fall River High School in 1961. Jerry and Sherry were married in 1965,Jerry graduated magnum laude from Chico State College in 1966. Following a job with Shell Oil Company,the love of the outdoors called and Jerry signed on with the US Forest Service. His assignments were in northern California,Juneau and Petersburg, Alaska; Sandpoint,Idaho; Delta,Colorado: and Lakeview, Oregon, where he retired after 30 years ,County as an administrative officer

Along the way they were blessed with three children: Gary,Randy,and Kathy. Each new location offered new hunting and fishing opportunities including multiple deer and elk, a California Black bear, an Alaskan mountain goat, and three sheep (all, Rocky Mountain, and Stone); also 105 pound halibut and 52 pound king salmon.

Jerry was always busy:building three houses for the family, repairing and maintaining the vehicles (including the kids'), tinkering/building something in the shop, cutting wood, farming his 40 acres, coaching Karley's softball team for five years, and enjoying the family and pet dogs.Jerry and Sherry hiked the 33 mile Alaska/British Columbia Chilkoot Trail in 1972 ,and 30 years later, *hiked it again. They retired back to Delta , Colorado in 2000

Jerry was a descendant of 2 pioneer families: the Foster family who came to Shasta,County in 1852 and the Koll Family of Lewiston came to Redding in 1872 on the first train, and on to Lewiston by wagon to build the Lewiston Hotel. Both family homes are still standing.

Jerry is survived by his wife Sherry of 55 years; sons,Gary (Hermona) and Randy; daughter, Karley Portnoff (Troy): grandchildren, Holly (Joey Haynes), Garret (Jaylynn) ,Madison and Kenzie Portnoff; great-grandchildren, Dehlila Haynes; cousins, Mary Abrott, Kathleen Corder, Pat Foster, nephew Mark(Pat) Fawver; sister- in-law Mary: and brother-in-law, Tom; and numerous others.

A life celebration was held Sunday, October 18, 2020, in Delta ,Co, from 1-4 p.m. at the family home. Contributions in Jerry's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or HopeWest, Delta. Cremation has taken place by Taylor's Funeral Service and Crematory.
