Gary was born October 11, 1941 in Bode, Iowa to Leif and Marge Larson.
He graduated from North High School in Des Moines in 1959 and attended Grandview College.
He was a lifelong resident of the Des Moines area.
Gary was employed by John Deere from 1963 to 1997, when he retired.
Gary was a member of the Ankeny Golf and Country Club and was an avid golfer. He enjoyed a good game of pool and attending car shows and dances at VFW Post 9662.
As a younger man, he raced motorcycles in the 1960s, an interest he shared with his son, Michael.
He was a man of simple tastes. He was always there to encourage you, give you a bad time, make you laugh, or sometimes all three. He was a classy man who was always laughing or making other people laugh.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and especially his good friend, Marilyn Doyle.
Gary is survived by his son, Michael Curtis Larson; step-sisters, Tena Spencer and Joanne Heimbach; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Janie Larson; his father, Leif Larson; his mother, Marge Larson; and his step-mother, Ada Larson.
