Lawrence Dale Golden
July 5, 1931 – December 10, 2020

On December 10, 2020 after a brief illness, Lawrence D. Golden went to be with our Lord and live Life after Life. Thanks to the hospice nurses and caregivers, his final days were peaceful, spent at home with his family by his side. He had many nicknames: Larry, Dale, Opie, Crap-pa, Craps, and probably many more.

Larry was born July 5, 1931 in Oklahoma City, OK to Pert (Pierce) and William C. “Bill” Golden, Lawrence was their oldest child.

After graduating from Capitol Hill High School in Oklahoma City, OK Larry joined the Army, September 18, 1948 at age 17. He served in Korea, where he saw boots on the ground combat. Corporal Golden was stationed at Ft. Hayes in Columbus, Ohio. He was honorably discharged on May 17, 1952. He received an Occupational medal in Japan, Combat Infantry Badge, Korean Service medal with one silver campaign star and a good conduct medal.

Larry was interested in cars and was an automotive mechanic before entering the army and during basic training. He worked at Tinker Air Force Base after returning to Oklahoma from Ohio, then after a few years went to work at Oklahoma Farm Bureau Insurance Company where he spent his career climbing the ladder. He retired as Vice President after 34 years with Farm Bureau.

Larry was preceded in death by his son, Larry Dean; grandson, Uriah Jeremy; parents; sister, Martha and her husband Jack Carter; and nephew, Jeff Carter. He is survived by his wife, Karen; daughters, Teresa “Tere” Shook and Julie Lamb and her husband Rick; grandchildren: Melissa, Curtis, and Jeff and his wife Rachel; great-grandsons, Kamen and Liam; brother, Jerry and his wife Judy; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Larry enjoyed his family to the fullest, having a different relationship with each one of his kids and grandkids. He loved his wife of 60 years and took great care of her and his family. He loved the water but he could not swim. He spent his life at the lake on the weekends with his kids and family. In his younger days he loved to fish with his kids and buddies. He loved to water ski and go boating and visit with friends on the beach at Lake Keystone. He taught many (too many to count) kids and adults alike to water ski, whether he knew them or not. He never met a stranger. He loved laughter and laughed all the time. He loved to travel to warm sunny places that were surrounded by water, Jamaica, Mexico, Florida, Georgia, North and South Carolina, Nevada, Arkansas, Missouri, and many Lakes across the U.S. He followed his grandkids in their activities from dance to baseball to gymnastics to soccer and loved to brag on his grands. Like his nicknames, he had a nickname for every one of us.
