Ethelyn B. Sandelius

Ethelyn Berniece Sandelius, 69, of Mt. Pleasant, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1993, at her home.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. today at the First Church of Christ in Mt. Pleasant. Ivan Odor will officiate. Burial will be in Two Rivers Cemetery, Isabella County. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Church of Christ or to Hospice of Central Michigan.

Mrs. Sandelius was born Jan. 11, 1924, in Cadillac, to Howard and Cleo (Brigham) Oligney. She married Einar A. Sandelius Sept. 23, 1944, at the Church of Christ in Cadillac. He preceded her in death on March 21, 1990.

She had lived in Mt. Pleasant since 1952, coming from Cadillac. Mrs. Sandelius was a member of the First Church of Christ in Mt. Pleasant, where she played the piano, the organ and sang in the choir since 1952. She had been a secretary for Allen Lumber Co. for many years. Mrs. Sandelius graduated from Cadillac High School in 1942 as the class valedictorian and then attended Central Michigan University. She was a Certified Professional Secretary and belonged to the Professional Secretaries International. Memberships also included the Mt. Pleasant Historical Society, and she was active in the Senior Center activities, enjoyed bowling, crafts, traveling and especially time spent with family and friends.

Mrs. Sandelius is survived by three children, Nancy Bywater and her husband Tracy of Weidman, Sallie Herman and her husband Tom of Weidman, and Ron Sandelius and his wife Millie of Cedar Springs; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren with two more great-grandchildren due soon.

Survivors also include two brothers, Kenneth Oligney and his wife Doris of Cadillac, and Michael Oligney and his wife Cathy of Bear Lake; two sisters, Beverly Martin and her husband Bob of Frankfort, and Alvera Jo Gilbert and her husband Dale of Arcadia; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband and both parents.

Funeral arrangements were made by the Helms Funeral Home.
