---------------
John Lucas Simms was born on January 2, 1924 in Lexington, Kentucky to the union of the late George Sr. and Catherine Simms.
John gave his life to Christ at the early age of five and congregated with Historic Pleasant Green Baptist Church in Lexington, Kentucky. Later when he relocated to Cincinnati, John decided to become a faithful member of Southern Baptist Church, where he has been for over 40 years.
John knew early on that if you wanted anything in this life; you would have to work hard and that is what he did. With an eighth grade education John enlisted in the United States Army on June 25, 1943. While in the army he had many jobs that would elevate his life once he left the Army. On May 10, 1946, he was honorably discharged from the Army making him Cpl. John L. Simms.
He then went back to school and obtained his GED and became an Environmental Engineer at University Hospital until he retired in 1966. Being that John was retired meant he had a lot of free time. John used that time to travel the world and experience life freely. He was a Mason, a member of the St. John Lodge #3. John was filled with life and did things his way with no regrets.
John Lucas Simms departed this life on Wednesday, November 25, 2020.
John is preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Mary Lewis and his grandchildren, James Lewis Jr. and Donna Harris. He leaves to cherish his memory; his devoted daughter, LaVonne Simms; his grandchildren, Adre’An Simms, A’shiia Simms, Tyron Lewis and Evette Lewis; great grandchildren, Alijah Simms, Elle, Audrey and Mara Pedrick, LaToyia Lewis-Harris, Maurice Lewis and Xavier Lewis; a host of many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
