Seth "Zed" Thomas Bullock, Jr., 82, died on Friday, December 12, 2008. He was born on November 17, 1926, in Santa Ana, California, the son of Seth Thomas Bullock and Anna Beatrice (Gates) Bullock.

Seth graduated from Tustin High School where he excelled as an all around athlete, lettering in football, baseball, basketball and track. A contract to play baseball with the Boston Red Sox was offered, but instead he joined the Navy to take an active role in World War II. During the war, Seth was assigned to the U.S.S. San Jacinto, a light aircraft carrier. His tour of duty took him into the Pacific war zone to the Marshall Islands, going into battle in the "Mariana's Turkey Shoot", Iwo Jima, Okinawa, the South China Sea and the home islands of Japan. Also aboard the San Jacinto was Navy Pilot George H. W. Bush.

Seth married (1) Kathaleen Gale Spencer on August 18, 1948, a marriage that lasted until her death in 1985. They had four daughters. After the death of his first wife, he married (2) Betty Jean (Baker) Balzer, his high school sweetheart.

Seth was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Kathaleen. He is survived by his wife, Betty Jean Bullock; a sister, Beverly Ann Blackwell of San Diego; his four daughters, five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Seth has requested cremation and in the spring when fishing season opens at Wild Horse Reservoir in Northern Nevada, his family will scatter his remains.

Donations or remembrances may be made to The Century Guest Home, 14332 Holt Ave., Santa Ana, CA 92705, in his name. The family acknowledges special appreciation to Lizel DeCampo at the Century Guest Home in Santa Ana and the nurses who have cared for him these past two years.
