Willie Mae Price (nee Drew), known to those who loved her as “Bill”, was born on August 6th 1928. She was one of nine children born to Rachel Messer and Clarence Drew. She entered into eternal rest on October 9th, 2020.
Willie Mae spent the majority of her younger years in Tallahassee, Florida where she attended the public schools there. She graduated from Lincoln High School. Willie Mae went on to receive her B.S. in Nursing from Florida Agricultural & Mechanical (A & M) University. She was the first person in the Drew family to attend college.
Willie Mae met Timothy Price in Quincy, Florida – a nearby neighborhood of Tallahassee – while she was working at an insurance company there. The two married on March 16th, 1955, and raised four children together: Alpheus, Monecar, Pamela, and Timothy Jr. Timothy Sr. spend many years serving the United States as a member of the military; he and Willie Mae travelled to different states during his time until they planted in Bridgeport, CT in roughly 1965.
Willie Mae was very involved in church growing up in Tallahassee, as well as, in Bridgeport as a member of Walters Memorial African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) Zion Church.
Willie Mae decided that she wanted to return to school and become a teacher, graduating from University of Bridgeport with her Masters’ degree in Education. She became a school teacher to many children, working with the Bridgeport Department of Education for many years.
Willie Mae was the matriarch for her family. She was loving, kind, caring, and had a great sense of humor. Her house was home to many – whether they were just stopping by or needed a place to stay. Her smile greeted everyone who walked through the door, and her love made all feel welcome inside of her home.
Willie Mae is preceded in death by her husband, Timothy Price, Sr. and her beloved son, Timothy Price, Jr. She is survived by her sisters, Jessie and Geneva, her children, Alpheus, Monecar, and Pamela, her grandchildren Erica, Anthony Jr., Rachel, Tracey, Mercedes, Nichola, Taylor and Angeline, as well as her great-grand children Elson Jr., Lahela, Cabrielle, Amaya, Nivaria, Toj, Chayse, Eden, and Derek Jr. She will be loved and missed by us all.
