Lewis Dwaine “Louie” Basola, 75, passed away Friday, December 11, 2020 at his home in Sandoval. He was born on February 4, 1945 the son of Nick and Ruth (Rippy) Basola in Sandoval. He married the love of his life, Mary Adams on April 13, 1968 at Fairman Baptist Church in Fairman and she survives in Sandoval.

Along with his devoted wife of 52 years, Mary Basola, survivors that will remember Louie’s kind smile include his beloved family, daughter, Michele Morris and husband Allen of Centralia, and son, Keith Basola and wife Lori of Spring Hill, TN; grandchildren, Hallie Basola, and Hunter Basola both of Spring Hill, TN, and Jarrod Morris and wife Christal of Centralia; great-grandchildren, Samantha Morris, and Trinitey Basola-Scott of Spring Hill, TN; siblings, Joe Basola and wife Judy of Decatur, Barbara Sullivan, and Donna Timmons both of Sandoval; brother-in-law, coffee drinking buddy, and best friend, Tom Holstlaw and friend Carolyn Seats; and several nieces and nephews that he loved and cherished.

Lewis was preceded in death by both his parents, Nick and Ruth Basola; sister, Ruth Ann “Teddy” Holstlaw; son, Nick Anthony Basola.

Lewis was a loyal employee of Warren G. Murray Center for 32 years, until his retirement, making sure everything ran smoothly in the maintenance department. Lewis was an asset to Macz Funeral Homes, offering his assistance as a part time employee, as he wanted to be useful and remain active after his retirement. During this time, his presence brought comfort to many families while assisting with visitations and celebrations of life services for the funeral home. As a longtime Baptist, Louie helped with many VBS and recently joined Zion Hill Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Centralia Elks Lodge 493. He was a true St. Louis Cardinals fan and enjoyed watching them play. He never met a stranger, taking time to offer a kind greeting and a warm smile to everyone. Lewis was proud of his family, and his eyes would just light up when he would share stories of the amazing things that were happening in the lives of his children and grandchildren. He was dependable and liked to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He enjoyed time with his family, being blessed to live on the same road as many of his siblings. They made fond memories over heartfelt conversations and shared mouthwatering, homemade meals together, never missing a chance to celebrate with each other. Lewis modeled a life of generosity, patience, and putting family first that will be passed down to each generation of the Basola family.

Day Macz Funeral Home in Sandoval is privileged to be assisting the family of Lewis Basola with arrangements. A private celebration of life service will be held at Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Centralia with longtime friend and pastor, Ray Barns officiating. Interment to follow at St. Lawrence Catholic Cemetery in Sandoval. A memorial service will be held with friends and family at a future date. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions in Lewis’ honor to Zion Hill Baptist Church. Online condolences and memories of Lewis may be shared with the family by visiting www.maczfuneralhomes.com and/or on the funeral home’s Facebook page.
