Billy Wayne Stanley, age 84, of Odessa, passed peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, December 9, 2020. He was born on July 23, 1936.
Billy was known by those who knew and loved him as Bill, Billy, Stanley, Doc, The Doctor, Billy Wayne, Daddy or Pa. Although he experienced many trials and tribulations throughout his life, he was always mindful of the presence of his Savior, Jesus Christ.
For over 30 years Billy could be found working at General Tire Rubber Plant. When not tending to his shiftwork, he could be found serving in his church. Billy filled numerous roles throughout the years, including but not limited to: song leader, deacon, and greeter. The one area that meant the most to him was the time he spent teaching junior high and high-school aged individuals in Sunday school, side by side with the love of his life, Betty Jane. In the past few years, Billy had adapted to social media and wrote a daily devotional that was loved by many. It was amazing to see how many people followed an 84 year old man who simply wrote about Jesus.
Other than teaching and serving in his church, Billy loved to travel and had many other notable qualities. Many special occasions and holidays were spent around the table on which his outstanding grilled or smoked steaks, ribs, and hamburgers were served. No need to call a repairman; he was a master of "Southern Engineering." He was also an all knowing individual. Many times one of his beloved grandchildren could be heard saying, "I don't need to look that up, I can just ask Pa."
Billy Wayne is survived by daughters: Sheryl Brookshire and husband, Doyle; Sharon Bynum and husband, Cory; and one son, Billy Stanley, Jr. He is also survived by grandchildren: Jason Brookshire and wife, Susie; Timothy Brookshire and wife, Amy; Hannah Bynum; and DJ Morrison. Also, he is survived by great grandchildren: Madison Brookshire, Ellen Brookshire, Parker Brookshire, Riley Brookshire, Drew Brookshire, Charlie Brookshire, and Oran and Destiny Morrison. In addition, he is survived by one brother, Chester Stanley, and one sister, Nettie Tatum.
There will be a graveside service at 3:00 pm Monday, December 14, 2020 at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa, TX.
Arrangements are entrusted to Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home.
