July 26, 1982 - December 9, 2020

Melissa Marie Wright, 38, of Mt. Airy, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at Carroll Hospital Center.
Born July 26, 1982 in Silver Spring, she was the cherished daughter of Martin Wayne and Lisa Jean Lawrence Carr of Mt. Airy. She was the beloved wife of Arthur Lee Wright, Jr., with whom she shared 7 wonderful years.
Melissa graduated from Urbana High School, Class of 2000. She was previously employed as an office manager for a dental office until health issues prevented her from working. Prior to that she was a beloved daycare provider. Melissa enjoyed taking long car trips, cruises, and baking. Above all, she loved spending time with her family. She was committed to supporting people with needs and disabilities. Despite her health challenges she stayed committed to helping others. She would bring in trinkets, cards, and gifts to her dialysis team and patients and even “dusting” people with surprise gift baskets during this pandemic. Her nephews, Mikey, Conner and Colby were the light of her life. As one of her friends wrote “She was a dedicated daughter, wife, sister, granddaughter, step-mom, and aunt.” Melissa will be remembered for her kind spirit and the love she had for her family.
Surviving in addition to her parents and husband, is her stepson Dakota Wright of Hagerstown; brothers Richard Wayne Carr (Becky) of New Market, and Anthony Darnell Hackey of Monrovia; nephews Michael Tyler Carr of Frederick, Colby James Reid of New Market, and Conner Brian Carr of New Market; grandfather Darwin Shaffer (Marsha) of Bruceton Mills, WV; her devoted aunt Robin Carr of Laytonville, her mother-in-law Glenna Wright (Huckle) of Germantown, many family and friends, and her Pomeranian dog Rusty.
Melissa was preceded in death by her best friend and beloved grandmother, Patricia Shaffer.

In light of the current health crisis, a celebration of Melissa’s life will be held at a later date and due notice will be given. (COVID-19)

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to either the National Kidney Foundation, Finance Dept., 30 East 33rd St., New York, NY 10016 www.kidney.org/donate or to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 15829, Arlington, VA 22215 www.diabetes.org
