Mary Joan Stokes, (nee Honerkamp) passed away Friday, December 11, 2020 at age 88. Joan was born in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Helen and Leo Honerkamp. She grew up down the street from her childhood sweetheart and best friend, Fred Stokes. They married on April 16, 1952 and moved to Ballwin, Missouri in 1975. Fred passed away in September, 2007.

Joan grew up in a close, loving family of six siblings. She was preceded in death by her brothers Lee, Ed, Don and Jim, and sister Rosemary, and is survived by her sister, Helen Hammons. Joan loved to read, and especially enjoyed traveling the country with her husband, Fred. Her dearest passion was her eight children and families: Larry (Dee) Stokes, Joe (Cindy) Stokes, Jan (Greg) Massarella, Gary (Tracy) Stokes, Sue Stokes, Patrick (Kathleen) Stokes, Mark (Ann) Stokes, and Rick (Scarlett) Stokes. Her extended family includes eighteen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.

Due to the current Covid restrictions, the family will celebrate Joan’s life and passing in a private Catholic ceremony at the Schrader Funeral Home & Crematory and Ballwin, Missouri on Tuesday, December 15, 2020. She will be buried alongside Fred at the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donation to the Missouri Baptist Healthcare Foundation/Nursing Education Fund, to benefit the nurses and healthcare workers who have worked tirelessly during this pandemic.
