The Herald-News, Dec. 14, 2020.

John Roger Owen, age 76, passed away December 5, 2020. Born in Springfield, formerly of Chicago and late of Lockport, IL.

John was the sweetest, kindest, most loving man you could know. He was a founding member of Leather United Chicago, IL, a leader and very active with many gay communities and organizations in Chicago, and a member of the First Congregational Church of Lockport active in becoming an open and affirming congregation. A public welcome by an Open and Affirming (ONA) church sends a clear message to LGBTQ seekers that they have a home in the United Church of Christ no matter where you are or where you are at in life's journey.

He is survived by his loving partner and husband of over 18 years Lee Rajala; dear sisters Linda Kay Perry, Gloria Jean Owen-Provos and Phyllis Ann Warren; six cherished nephews and one special niece.

Preceded in death by his parents Daniel Webster and Ellen Louise Owen.

A celebration of life will be organized in the summer as circumstances permit.

A private interment will be taking place at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL.

In lieu of flowers please feel free to make donations to the John Owen Memorial of First Congregational Church of Lockport (www.lockportucc.org/giving) or The Center on Halsted (www.centeronhalsted.org)
