Wilma Jean Henderson passed away Jan. 9, 2017, at Sonora Regional Medical Center. She was 82. Wilma was born Jan. 7, 1935, in Live Oak, California.
Wilma was a farm girl at heart. She always enjoyed flowers, fruit trees and tending to the many plants in her yard. Along with her love of gardening, she loved to teach. She met her husband, John Henderson, while attending college at Chico State. After college, Wilma began teaching at Fremont Junior College and later became a teacher at Sonora Elementary from 1966 until she and her family moved to Tehachapi in 1975. She, of course, continued teaching in her new town. In 1983, Wilma moved back to Sonora and became involved in the Aronos Club, as well as many other community groups and clubs that benefited the town of Sonora greatly.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John, in 1994.
Wilma is survived by her children, John and Glenda; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, 2017, at the Church of the 49ers in Columbia with interment to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donation to the Aronos Club of Sonora, which Wilma would have appreciated the most.
