Anna Merle (Heinbach) Lang of Norfolk, Virginia, age 100, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 8, 2020, passing away of natural causes.

She was born June 27, 1920, and raised in the small eastern Pennsylvania town of St. Clair and graduated with Saint Clair High School's Class of 1938. On her birthday in 1942 in St. Clair, she married Robert F. Lang of Philadelphia, a Methodist minister who then became a US Navy chaplain in 1945. Together, they lived at various duty stations for 25 years, up and down the East Coast and Puerto Rico while raising their family. After retiring from the Navy, they traveled frequently in the United States and Europe.

Anna Merle retired after 15 years in retail cosmetology sales, and spent her time traveling with family, visiting with friends and supporting her community. For many years, Anna Merle was an active member of the Norfolk Five Pointers organization, as well as the Miller & Rhodes Retirees group, a member of the Grand Chapter of Pennsylvania Order of the Eastern Star, a life-long member of St. Clair Wade United Methodist Church, a long time attendee of Miles Memorial UMC, supporter of Montgomery Square PA UMC, an annual Bible School volunteer at Little Creek Chapel, as well as logging over 2100 hours serving as a Guest Relations Representative volunteer at DePaul Medical Center, a job she performed weekly until just recently suspended by COVID restrictions.

A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, neighbor and friend, Anna Merle enjoyed regular walks along the Virginia Beach boardwalk, visits with family and friends over coffee, and a scoop of ice cream every night before bed.

Preceded in death by her parents, Earle & Anna Heinbach; sisters, Ruth Geiger and Blanche Williamson; and loving and devoted husband of over 54 years, Chaplain Robert F. Lang. She is survived by her son, CAPT Robert Lang USN (Ret.) of California; daughter, Linda Lang Salisbury of Texas; ten grandchildren and their families, nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.

Due to COVID-19, local services are pending. The burial will take place in the spring of 2021 at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington D.C. For more information please visit www.hollomon-brown.com for details.
