Timothy L. McKinney, age 69, passed on Tuesday, December 9, 2020 after a decade and a half battle against cancer.

Tim was born on September 13, 1951 in Lima, Ohio to John D. and Isabel (Faze) McKinney who preceded him in death.

On August 20, 1976 he married Velma B. McDonald who survives him.

Tim is survived by sons: Shawn (Danette) McKinney of Marysville and Matthew (Becca) of Mason; daughter: Ashley (Joshua Coleman) McKinney of Lima. As well as his pride and joy, six grandchildren: Lillian, Teagan, Collin, Evelyn, Knight and Olive. He is also survived by his siblings Diana Miller of Cridersville, Donna Jones of Van Wert and Rodney (Marilyn) McKinney of Lima and his sister in-law, Esther McKinney.

He is preceded in death by brothers, John D. (Virginia), William, Robert and Thomas McKinney; sisters, Janet (Donald) Hessling and Jane (Kenneth) Parish and his brothers in-law, Bruce Miller and Phil Jones.

Tim held various manufacturing jobs throughout his years until his cancer diagnosis in 2004. He worked a short time as a substitute teacher at Bath High School until he found his passion for public service. He served 12 years on the Bath Local School Board. He was an active member of the Northwest District Board and the Ohio School Board Association. Tim was an avid Cleveland Indians and Browns fan and truly loved all things sports, especially watching his children and grandchildren play.

At Tim's wishes his body has been donated to the Ohio State University College of Medicine in hopes to help further develop cancer research and knowledge of carcinoid cancer.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2020, from 2:00-5:00 p.m., at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the James Cancer Research Center, The OSUCCC – James, 460 W. 10th Ave.
Columbus, OH 43210 or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital 1404 Goodale Blvd #200, Columbus, OH 43212, in memory of Tim.
