Loretta Metzger, 89, of 2858 Greenbranch Road, New Lexington, Ohio, died 2 a.m. Wednesday, January 9, 1991, at Good Samaritan Medical Center, Zanesville, Ohio.

Metzger was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Third Order of St. Dominic, the Hilberian Club, and CCL Garden Club. She was an honorary member of the Jackson Grange, Junction City, Ohio.

She was born August 13, 1901, in New Lexington and was a daughter of Lyman and Cordelia (Flowers) Hammond.

She is survived by three sons, Harold Metzger, Francis Metzger both of New Lexington and James Metzger of Columbus, Ohio; four daughters, Mrs.Elizabeth Skillman and Clara Studer, both of New Lexington, Mrs. James (Veronica) Emmert of Somerset, Ohio and Mrs. Donald (Rose) Bever of Lancaster, Ohio; 31 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. John (Kathleen) Nash of New Lexington and Mrs. Steve (Josephine) Basall of Zanesville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Metzger in 1984; two sons, Raymond and John Robert Metzger; a daughter, Mary Madolyn Strohl; five brothers; three sisters.

Calling Hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m Friday at Chute-Wiley Funeral Home, New Lexington, where the rosary will be recited at 8:30 p.m. Friday.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, near Somerset, with Father Adrian Dionne as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
