Deborah Lynn Gould, of Escanaba, entered eternal rest on Sunday, December 6, 2020 at Bellin Health Systems in Green Bay, WI. The daughter of Henry and Lucille (Gould) Swanson, Sr., Deb was born on October 18, 1950 in Manistique. She attended Manistique Area Schools and graduated from the Manistique High School with the class of 1968. On October 13, 1971, the former Deborah L. Swanson married Vernon Lee Gould at the Hiawatha Four Square Country Church in Manistique. She spent the greater part of her life in Manistique and later Escanaba, where she and Vern raised their family.

Deb was a member of the First Baptist Church of Manistique. In her 70 years of life, Deb truly embodied and taught her family that joy is something that is made at home each day and is found in giving to those you love. Deb found great joy in traveling, knitting blankets and hats for her grandchildren, an occasional visit to the casino, camping, flower gardening, collecting antiques, metal detecting, crafting, and Elvis music. There was nothing, however, that brought her more joy than spending time with family, especially her grandchildren.

She will be remembered for giving the most precious gift someone can give to their family – her loving time spent with family, such as hunting with her son and grandson, Shad and Hunter, and teaching her granddaughters, Mary, Allie and Brittinie, how to sew and knit. Deb was adored by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She was someone who went above and beyond to help those around her. If there was a task that needed doing, Deb was the one to step up and do it, ensuring that her family was taken care of and making them laugh while doing so. Deb always had a gift to give, often making them herself if one could not be purchased. She leaves behind a love that will be remembered forever, from countless hilarious memories to every stitch in each blanket she made for all of her grandchildren.

Deborah is survived by her husband, Vern of Escanaba; son, Shad (Georgenea) Gould of Escanaba; daughters, Stephany (Terry) Larson of Escanaba and Sherry (Jeff Davis) Gould of Iron Mountain; brothers, Alfred (Mary Martilla) Swanson of Manistique and Rick (Sharon) Swanson of Manistique; sisters, Lorna (Gary) Lander of Manistique, Sandy (Bill) Orr of Manistique, Louann (DJ) De Grand of Gladstone, and Jane (Greg) Kass of Slinger, WI; sister-in-law, Brenda Swanson of Wetmore; 12 grandchildren, Dakota, Derick, Cole, Sophie, Samuel, Mia, Mary, Aurora, Tyler, Brittinie, Hunter, and Allie; 4 great-grandchildren, Rylynn, Ryvver, Mason, and Oaklynn. She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Henry “Hank” Swanson Jr.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, private funeral services will be held at a future date, with the Reverend Dr. Jay Martin officiating. Burial will take place in the spring at the New Garden Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family for future designation.
