Funeral service for Verna Mae Stewart, age 98, of Wichita Falls, Texas, formerly of Tipton, Oklahoma, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 11, 2020, at the First Baptist Church of Tipton, with Rev. Don Altom, officiating.

Mrs. Stewart passed away on Monday, December 7, 2020, at a Wichita Falls, Texas, care center. Burial will be in the Tipton Municipal Cemetery under the direction of Orr Gray Gish & Tipton Funeral Homes. Viewing will be at the Orr Gray Gish Funeral Home in Frederick.

She was born February 28, 1922, in Marlow, Oklahoma, to Ruben and Effie (Crawford) Perry. She grew up in the Marlow, Rush Springs and Duncan area. In 1939, she was united in marriage to Woodrow Stewart. They moved to California in 1956. She worked as a nurse’s aide. They also lived in Arkansas before returning to Tipton, Oklahoma, in 1972. She also worked in garment factories. She was a homemaker and she and her husband would garden and she loved canning. She was an accomplished seamstress and took pride in sewing clothes for not only her children but her grandchildren as well. She was a member of the Tipton First Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 62 years Woodrow, on May 10, 2001; brothers: Jack, Brison, Cleo, R.T., Wesley, and Donald Wayne Perry; and a sister: Josephine.

Survivors include three sons: John Stewart, of Visalia, California, Steve Stewart, Corpus Christi, Texas, and Joel Stewart, of Tipton, Oklahoma; two brothers: James Perry and wife Neva, of Cache, Oklahoma, and Johnny Ray Perry and wife Nellie, of Snyder, Oklahoma; a sister: Imogene Moran, of Altus, Oklahoma; three grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
