“Butts” was a devoted husband for 58 years to his beloved wife, Doris (Mitchell) Marotta. They wed as he was serving in the Korean War. Their union produced three children, Mickey, Angie and Dean.
Angelo was a fine student athlete at Clearview High School. After graduation, he served four years in the Air Force and received several commendations. He also attended Oklahoma State University. Upon returning to the Lorain area, he worked as a highly respected field rep for Retail Credit (now Equifax) for 40 years. He served as Clerk of Sheffield Township for 28 years. He was a very special musician for many years. His brother, Joe Marotta, was his master mentor.
“Ang” was active in the Lions Club, IAV, and Knights of Columbus, as well as a life member of St. Lad's S.P. Society. He was also an amateur Lorain legend in the golf community for many years after his fastpitch softball days. And he volunteered his time to coach several youths during their formative years with a great mix of passion and compassion.
Angelo is survived by his brother, Joseph (Anita) Marotta; children, Mickey (Norma) Marotta, Angela (Patrick) Riley, and Dean (Shari) Marotta; Grandchildren David (Aimee) Marotta and Yemoja Marotta, Joseph (Kathryn) Riley; John Riley; Erin (Nicholas) Basilius; Maxwell and Cassandra Marotta; great-grandchildren Jonah Jefferson, Jaxon Marotta, and Lia and Clare Riley, and numerous loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris (Mitchell) Marotta, his parents, sister Mary (Marotta) Montagnese, and brother, Samuel (Rose) Marotta.
