Mr. John D. Vickery, Sr., passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, December 8, 2020 in the peace and comfort of his home in Wilmington, NC, after a battle with Alzheimer’s disease, at the age of 76.

Mr. Vickery was born to George Frederick and Harriet “Lois” (Dennison) Vickery on February 26, 1944 in Little Falls, NY and attended schools in Little Falls.

On Jan 4, 1969, Mr. Vickery was united in Holy Matrimony with the former Margaret Pavalock at St. Mary's Church, Little Falls, enjoying 49 blessed years of marriage until the untimely passing of Mrs. Vickery on January 15, 2018.

In 2009, Mr. and Mrs. Vickery moved to North Carolina to focus on their happiness and retirement with their loved ones. Mr. Vickery was last employed with the Remington Arms Company where he held employment for many years of dedicated service. He was a proud United States Veteran having served our country with the United States Navy as well as the United States Army.

The years that followed Little Falls in North Carolina provided the Vickery’s with many memories. Though John was quiet and gentlemanly by nature, he appreciated levity and humor. He was a hard worker, a great provider, and a family man always willing to lend anyone a helping hand. John was raised with values that made him a good son, father and the best husband. He looked forward to family gatherings and was proud to have loved ones together. He shared his love and patience with his loved ones which made his life most complete. The Lord truly lived in John’s heart and he will be missed by all those who had the fortunate experience of knowing him.

Surviving John are his loving children: Dawn Vickery (Keith Loesch), John Jr. and wife Kimberlee, and Beth Vickery (Henry Daughtry) all of North Carolina; two very special and close to his heart grandchildren: Steven Barhydt (Nicole Yerina) and Makenna Grace Vickery; He is survived by his sisters Valdean Cagwin, Joyce Petrie, Jean Verri, Leslie Nash, Robin Petkovsek, Ronda Smith, and a brother Rick(George) Vickery. One sister in law Ann Carlisto (Tony). Many cherished nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog “Charlie”.

Mr. Vickery was predeceased by a beloved son, Dennis John Vickery, and a sister Wendy Vickery.

A memorial service to celebrate both beautiful lives of Mr. and Mrs. Vickery will take place at Holy Family Parish, Little Falls when COVID-19 conditions improve. Relatives and friends will be respectfully invited to attend.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate your donation in the name of John and Margaret Vickery to Lower Cape Fear Life Care at https://lifecare.org/.
