He was a very kind and loving father devoting most of his time to his children. He loved and was a master at mushroom hunting and fishing. Herman loved the outdoors and working with his hands. He retired from Chrysler Corporation where he became a master Tool & Die maker. In his later years, he loved socializing by dancing at various senior gatherings across Indiana and Ohio. He was an U.S. Army Veteran and served a tour of duty during the Vietnam War. He was a recipient of several military awards and recognitions.
Herman is survived by his three children, Stephen R. Ford (wife, Kim), Jason W. Ford (wife, Hannah), and Rachel E. Shoopman (husband, Preston); a sister, Leah Mae Martin; four grandchildren, Jacob R. Ford (wife, Nicole), Isaac N. Ford, Raeann D. Garner and Ryker S. Shoopman. His companion of nearly 10 years, Helena Lundy (and family); mother of his children, Carol Ford; many nieces, nephews and dear friends also survive.
Herman was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law, Richard Alan Martin and nephew, Danny Martin.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at Macer-Hall-Marcum & Moffitt Funeral Home, 2011 East Broad Street, New Castle. A family viewing will be from 10:00 a.m., until 11:00 a.m. The public is invited to attend the funeral procession leaving at 11:00 a.m., going through Memorial Park pausing on the bridge where he spent many hours with his children fishing. Eventually arriving at Green Hills Memory Gardens where his body will be laid to rest having a short graveside service. Military honors will be provided by the U.S. Army Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. Following the graveside service, there will be a Memorial Service at Westview Church of the Nazarene in the Fellowship Hall at 1:00 p.m., for those who would like to attend for fellowship afterwards.
