He was a resident of Bessemer. Charles was born in Randolph, Alabama on May 18, 1928.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Elinder Jones Burnett; daughters, Shelia Burnett Joiner (Roger) and Jerri Burnett Vining (Mark).
He leaves behind 3 grandsons, Brad Joiner, Chuck Joiner (Jessica), Jeremy Vining (Sarah); one special granddaughter, Jennifer Vining, who he helped care for and one great-granddaughter, Ansley Vining. Charles is also survived by his older brother, Sam Burnett, Jr., and a host of nieces and nephews. He loved his family and spending time with them.
Charles served as a corporal in the Korean War and received several medals for his service.
After leaving the military, he had a career at TCI/US Steel as a pipe fitter, retiring in 1982. He was a member of Canaan Baptist Church for 54 years. Charles was an avid gardener and loved delivering his vegetables to his friends and neighbors. He was known for his buttermilk pies and sweet potato cobblers that he made.
Graveside service will be Thursday, December 10, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Jefferson Memorial Gardens Hoover. Rev. Chuck Joiner will be officiating the service.
