Gary Guthrie, age 77, passed away peacefully Saturday, December 5, 2020 at his home near Clark, Ohio following a long battle with COPD.
Born in Millersburg on May 25, 1943, he was the son of the late Merton and Helen (Mullet) Guthrie. He met Carol Jones at a ball game at the Killbuck/Clark Consolidated High School. They married on November 4, 1961 and were devoted to each other for 59 years. She survives along with two sons, Terry Guthrie of Frazeysburg, Todd (Brenda) Guthrie of Clark and grandsons, Jeremy Guthrie and Nicholas Guthrie of Clark, as well as a granddaughter, Dallas Guthrie. Also surviving are brothers, Gordon, Tom and John. A sister, Annabelle and brothers, Ed, Bob and Jim have passed on.
Gary had grown up on a farm and later spent many years farming, creating good lessons and memories that Todd, Terry and other family and friends will never forget. Most recently he worked for Mt. Eaton Pallet, a job that he enjoyed and suited him well as he never met a stranger and loved to talk to people.
He loved the outdoors, especially fishing and deer hunting, and reminiscing about deer hunting, which led a good friend to comment that his passing during deer season was fitting. Grandson's Jeremy and Nicholas have many good memories of fishing and deer hunting with grandpa.
Gary was a loyal and committed member of the Killbuck First Church of Christ, serving there for over 40 years. His Bible was well read and tattered with proverbs and Ecclesiastes being a couple of his favorites. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge.
A graveside service was held tuesday, December 8, 2020 at the Killbuck Cemetery with Pastor Rik Snyder officiating. A celebration of life remembrance will be held at a later date.
