Anne Lee Thompson, 86 of Virginia Beach, VA passed November 26th, 2020. Anne was born in Norfolk, VA the beloved daughter to the late Aubrey Alexander Thompson, Sr. and Blanche Benton Thompson. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her brother Aubrey A. Thompson, Jr. and her life-long friend Dorothy Ruth DuRant. She is survived by her sister-in-law Olive Thompson, nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends.

Anne was retired from her long career with Texaco and Norfolk Shipyard. Anne better known as “Tommie” to all of her close friends was a graduate of Maury High School. She was very active in sports excelling in basketball and especially softball. Anne was inducted to the Tidewater Virginia Amateur Softball Association Hall of Fame in 1988 and played from around 1943 through 1963 as an All-Star shortstop. Although stats were not kept at the time, during her induction, she was quoted as saying “We played strictly for the love of softball, and for the joy of winning.”

Anne was known for her quick wit and sense humor. She had a great love for writing and her home in Chesapeake. One of her other loves was the beach where she spent time over the years with family and friends in the Outer Banks, one of her favorite places.

A graveside service will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery on Friday, Dec. 11, at 11 a.m. under the direction of Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel.
