Larry Dean Porter, 80, of Springfield, died at 8:30 a.m. on December 7, 2020 at his residence. Larry was born on March 27, 1940 in Taylorville, IL, the son of Ralph Elmer and Clara Caroline Kunz Porter. He married Lorena Lou Myers on March 15, 1968; she preceded him in death in 2011.

Larry proudly served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany for a year. He graduated from Edinburg High School in 1958. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and U of I football and basketball. Most importantly, Larry enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Allen Porter; and grandchildren, Claire Mitchell and Elijah Porter.

He is survived by his children, Loren (wife, Reba) Porter of Chatham, IL, Lowell Porter of Springfield, IL, Daniel Elmer Porter of Springfield, IL, and Diana (husband, Jim) Mitchell of Dallas, TX; eleven grandchildren, Bailey Porter, Levi Porter, Noah Porter, Mikaela Mitchell, Christian Mitchell, Hannah Mitchell, Andrew Mitchell, Nathanael Mitchell, and Emery Mitchell; and sister, Karen (husband, Ron) Grotgan of Winter Haven, FL, and brother Dale (wife Debbie) Porter of Normal, IL

Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 11, 2020 at Grace Baptist Church, 2812 S. Walnut St., Springfield, IL 62704. Due to COVID restrictions there will be limited capacity and face coverings are recommended.

Additional Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: Saturday, December 12, 2020 from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. with a ceremony to follow at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Baptist Church with Dr. Bob Shaw officiating. Due to COVID restrictions there will be limited capacity and face coverings are recommended.

Interment will be held at Grove City Cemetery in Mt. Auburn, IL with military honors provided by the Department of Defense.
