PHYLLIS RHODES
Phyllis Oviatt Rhodes, 87, of Boise, passed away September 26, 2014. Born in McCall, Idaho on July 24, 1927, the eldest child of George and Ida Short, she was known as "The Marble Champion" in her youth. She won many awards proving her excellent marksmanship with a rifle. She graduated from Boise High School. She began her career as a secretary and closing agent for Paul B. Larsen. She earned her Broker's License before striking out on her own in 1967 when she opened Oviatt Inc. Realtors. She was known for the exceptional service she provided to her clients.
Phyllis married Robert Oviatt in 1947. They enjoyed dancing and had two children, Robin and Jeff. After they divorced, she married Glenn "Denny" Rhodes in 1970. Together over 38 years, they built a cabin in Idaho City and spent many wonderful years with each other, their family and dogs. Phyllis had a green thumb and her backyard was an oasis. She especially loved her roses. She discovered a passion for antiques and was a dealer for over 15 years at Antique World Mall where she was known for her expertise and made many loyal friends. An extraordinary cook, she hosted dinner parties and constantly baked for others. She was well known for her homemade "Philly Bread". She was a nurturer by nature. Her home was filled with warmth and she always had a fire burning. Everyone was always welcome and left well fed. She had a generous spirit and loving heart.
A vibrant and charming lady, Phyllis had a sassy personality and was the epitome of class. She enjoyed spending time with friends and family, sharing a glass of wine and wit. She was adored by everyone and will be deeply missed.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her brother, George Short Jr., husband, Glenn "Denny" Rhodes and beloved daughter, Robin Traver. Survivors include her brother, Mike Short, son, Jeff Oviatt, grandchildren, David Traver, Shannon Traver, Jeff Oviatt Jr., Jason Hering, as well as many great grandchildren, family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm, Saturday, October 4, 2014 at Summers Funeral Homes, 1205 Bannock St., Boise. Burial will follow at Dry Creek Cemetery.
