Derrick Everett "Bo Bo" Stewart
Derrick Everett "Bo Bo" Stewart, 16, of Winona, died of a gunshot wound Monday, July 22, 1996, at University Medical Center in Jackson.
Bo Bo attended Shiloh Baptist Church near Vaiden. He played short stop and pitcher for the Winona High School baseball team and was their leading hitter. He was a member of FCA, VICA and the Gifted Art Club. He attended Winona Academy as a freshman and was voted Most Handsome, Most Athletic and Mr. Junior Winona Academy. At Winona Academy he played Junior High football and was moved to the high school team during the year.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 25, at First Baptist Church in Winona with Rev. John L. Walker officiating assisted by the Rev. Leon Holly and the Rev. Doug Warren. Burial was in the Winona Garden of Memory.
Survivors include his father, Randy Stewart of Winona; mother, Kathy Winters of Starkville; one brother, Dale Stewart of Starkville; and his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence H. "Doc" Loftin of Vaiden. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Everett Stewart and Dorothy Stewart Downs.
Active pallbearers were Leith Loftin,Tally Noah, Stewart Williams, Todd Burrell, John Hodges, Jr., and Dylan Meeks.
Honorary pallbearers were the All Star Baseball Summer League Team, George Harris, Jr., David Ware, Destin Moore and Devin Loftin.
Oliver Funeral Home of Winona was in charge of arrangements.
