Roy William Pohler "Royce" Pohler of Lake Charles La. Died Tuesday, December 22, 1987 in Cameron La., at the age of 61 years, 7 months and 15 days.
He was born May 7, 1926 at Shiner, Lavaca County, Texas, son of Hugo "Pete" and Agnes Schaefer) Pohler, natives of Komensky and Koerth, Lavaca County, Texas, respectively. He was only 3 months old (his brother was 16 months old) when his mother died in August 1926. It was then that his father prevailed on his sister and her husband, Frieda and Arthur Fischnar to come with their four small children and make their home with him and his two infant sons. All of the six were lovingly reared as one family in the Pohler - Fischnar household on North Ave. E. in Shiner, which still stands today.
Roy attended Shiner Public Scholl and graduated with the Class of 1943. He faithfully attended all of his class reunions when they were held.
A World War II Weteran, Pohler was the president, founder and owner of Lake Charles Louisiana Steel and Supply, Cameron Steel and Supply and Cam/Steel located in Venice Louisana. He was also an avid collector of North American Indian Artifacts and relics and was the proud owner of 32,000 pieces, a hobby that was begun in Shiner when he was only six years old. Some four years ago Roy and Sadie Brocato, transferred the entire collection to the people of Louisana in a formal ceremonies at the governor's mansion, where "The Roy and Sadie Pohler Collection of Indian Artifacts" will remain on display.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 26, in Lake Charles, La. Burial with full military honors followed in the Consolata Cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Sadie (Brocato) Pohler of Lake Charles, La.; a brother, Hugo "Pete" Pohler of Hallettsville at (Worthing), two cousin/brothers, Arthur and Burnell Fischnar of Porter, near Houston; numerous other cousins and a host of friends and acquaintances.
He was preceded in death by his mother, August 23, 1926' his father. January 13, 1958; his aunt and mother, February 22, 1964; Mr. Fischnar, July 3, 1941; his cousin/sister Fay Fischnar, July 25, 1844 and his cousin/brother, Eugene J. Fischnar, October 6, 1978
