Ravenswood - Opal Sarah Leachman, 87, of Ravenswood died Jan. 11, 2004, at Jackson General Hospital, Ripley.

She was born May 11, 1916, in Upshur County, a daughter of the late Delbert and Bessie Bragg Simmons. She was a member of Brooks Hill Methodist Church in Alexander, W.Va. She was an insurance salesperson for Reserve Life Insurance for many years and a homemaker, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and special friend to many. She loved to play bingo.

She is survived by her children, Helen Blosser and her husband, Jack, of Akron, Ohio, Midge Grimes and her husband, Ed, of Magnolia, Ohio, Marjorie Pixler of New Martinsville, Royal Leachman of Danville, Tenn., Charlotte Motherbaugh of Stuart Draft, Va., and Sharon Evans and her husband, John, of Ravenswood; 29 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Brooks; son, Kesler; grandsons, Greg Leachman and Roger Blosser; brothers, Warren and Orville; and sister, Ruth.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Roush Funeral Home, Ravenswood, with the Rev. Darrell Johnson officiating. Burial in Ravenswood Cemetery. Friends may visit from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Jackson County Humane Society, P.O. Box 44, Cottageville, WV 25239.
