He was born Oct. 13, 1935, in Asheville, N.C., to Tench W. Sr. and Minnie (Saxon) Parks. He attended private school in Mason, Tenn.
He married Queenie C. Emerson on July 13, 1971, in Peoria, Ill.
He retired from Caterpillar Inc. in 1988. He was an avid card player and a people person.
He confessed Christ at an early age at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Asheville, N.C. He was a trustee at Peoria Friendship Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the Rev. Willie Williams Sr. He was chairman of the Men and Women Day Committee, Transportation Committee and the month of October Calendar Tea.
He was a member of Peter H. Clark Elks Lodge 483, where he was a past grand exalted ruler, director of the Beauty and Talent Department and director of the Education Department of Illinois-Wisconsin State Association. He was also a member of Henry Brown Masonic Lodge.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Queenie; four daughters, Sonya Parks and Erica Parks, both of Peoria, Ill., and Brenda (Henderson) Jackson and Pamela Jones, both of Chicago; two sons, Craig (Ann) Spears and Maurice Parks, both of Chicago, Ill.; one godson, Eluster (Vivian) Sampson of Peoria, Ill.; 15 grandchildren, three of whom he raised, Nicholous Rashaud Parks, Ciara Renee Parks and Quentin Jacobie Parks, all of Peoria, Ill.; 13 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Edith Hamilton of Peoria, Ill., Marcella (Roosevelt) Pittman of Chicago, Ill., and Inez (Danny) Whiteside of Asheville, N.C.; one brother, Joseph Parks of Peoria, Ill.; one special friend, Bernard (Rose) Childress; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Tench W. "T.W." Parks Jr. and Thomas Parks; and one great-grandchild.
Jacob will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Sept. 8, at Peoria Friendship Missionary Baptist Church from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 9, at Rising Sun Christian Church at 10 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to services. Services will be officiated by the Revs. Willie Williams Jr., Raymond E. Watson Jr. and Joseph Cherry. T.W. Parks Colonial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
