Martha Louise Tigner Garrett, 74 of Greenville, GA died on Tuesday, August 27, 2019 following a long illness. She was born in Greenville, GA on January 13, 1945, the first of two children of Loretta and Thomas B. Tigner, Sr. Louise graduated from Greenville High School in 1963. She graduated Cum Laude from North Georgia College in 1967. While at North Georgia College, she was featured in Whos Who in American Colleges and Universities.
Louise was active in the Greenville community and in the Greenville United Methodist Church for many years. She worked as a Department of Family and Children's Services caseworker, and also worked in her brothers local grocery store while raising her two sons in Greenville.
Louise married Marvin Garrett in March 1987. They have been active members of the Greenville Baptist Church for many years.
Louise began working in the Meriwether County Clerk of Superior Courts Office in 1980 and first took office as Clerk of Superior Court in January of 1985. She retired at the end of 2012 with 28 years of service, earning her the title of the longest-serving Clerk of Superior Court in Meriwether County history.
Louise was chosen for Whos Who in Executives and Professionals for 1996-1997, "Whos Who in Georgia in 1988, and Whos Who Historical Society of Professional Administrators in 2000. She was twice elected as Clerk of the Year by the Superior Court Clerks of the 4th,5th, and 6th Judicial Districts.
Louise was a gifted singer and pianist, sharing her singing ability with both the Methodist and Baptist churches and singing for special occasions. She enjoyed reading, flower gardening, and keeping up with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Louise was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband Marvin Garrett, of Greenville, GA; sons and daughters-in-law Trace (Ashley) Lasher of St. Marks, GA; Ben (Kristy) Lasher, stepsons Pat (Judie) Garrett and Mike Garrett; brother and sister-in-law Tom B. (Carleen) Tigner, Jr. all of Greenville, GA; grandchildren Lauren (Steven)Keel, Thomas Lasher, Hannah Lasher, Hunter Lasher, Kylie Belle Lasher, Brian (Celeste) Garrett, Daniel (Maranda) Garrett, April (Glen) Gantner, Adam Garrett; great-grandchildren Charlie Garrett, Beau Garrett, Hadley Garrett, Luca Gantner and many other extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be held 2:00PM on Thursday, August 29th, at Greenville Baptist Church, Greenville, GA with Rev. Jonathan Porter officiating, private interment will follow in the Gates Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5:00 -7:00 PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be given in memory of Louise T. Garrett to the Greenville Baptist Church VBS program.
