Margaret Ann Harrison
January 29, 1920 - December 06, 2020

Margaret Harrison passed away peacefully on December 6, 2020 at the age of 100. She was born on January 29, 1920 to Sarkis and Isabel Tayian in Fowler, California. She attended Winchell Elementary, Longfellow Jr. High, and Fresno Technical High School. After graduation, she worked for California Drapery House. She was a talented seamstress who sewed with the goal of perfection.

Through relatives, Margaret met Austin (Pete) Harrison who had just completed his tour of duty in the Pacific Theater with the Marine Corps. They married in 1945 and moved to Oceanside, California, and later Quantico, Virginia, before settling down in San Francisco. While living there, son Keith and daughter Deborah, were born in 1947 and 1950, respectively.

Margaret was the quintessential homemaker who loved to cook and sew for her family. As a devout Christian, she took her children to Sunday School every Sunday without fail. She attended Bible Study classes regularly. Later in life when it was no longer possible, she listened to her “Bible on Tapes,” and especially enjoyed hearing Dr. David Jeremiah’s sermons.

In 1975, she was suddenly widowed at the age of 55 when her beloved Pete passed away unexpectedly. Her unwavering faith in the Lord provided her with the strength to carry on. She never complained, but accepted and overcame whatever challenges she encountered. Margaret’s life was defined by the word “humility.” She was a faithful servant who loved the Lord and worked diligently for her church her entire life. As a dedicated member of First Armenian Presbyterian Church, she served as an elder, and was a member of the Fidelis Society. You could always find Mom in the church kitchen either rolling yalanchi or making cheese bourag. She was the oldest surviving communicant member of the church. In addition, Margaret volunteered for many years at Fresno Community Hospital. Much to the joy of everyone, she was able to celebrate her 100th Birthday with a party attended by family and friends.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Austin, and her brother Berge Tayian.

She is survived by her children, Keith (Pat) Harrison and Deborah (Melvin) Kazarian, and by her grandchildren: Andrew (Gia) Kazarian, Charles Kazarian, Lauren (Christian) Hallaian, Katherine (Albert) Harrison-Chen, and Phillip (YiYi) Harrison, as well as five great grandchildren.

Margaret’s family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to the outstanding care she received while at San Joaquin Gardens Skilled Nursing. A special thank you to Ani Sarafian who brought her love and laughter in her final years of life.

There will be a private graveside service due to Covid restrictions.

Remembrances may be made to First Armenian Presbyterian Church, 430 S. First Street, Fresno, California, 93702.
