Cornelia A "Nelia" (Herald) Nicholson was born on January 10, 1873 in Cheatham County, Tennessee, the daughter of Robert M Herald (1850–1924) and Louvenia Louvisa "Vicie" (Dyce) Herald (1858–1932).

She was married on December 24, 1892 in Cheatham County, Tennessee to Joseph "Rufus" Nicholson (1870–1923), and he was the son of William Jefferson "Will Jeff" Nicholson (1830–1921) and Delana Tennessee (Wright) Nicholson (1828–1901). {Her obituary - very much in error - listed her as MARRIED in 1873!} After her husband died in 1923, Nelia moved to Nashville and lived with her daughter Mrs Mary St. Charles.

A member of Free Will Baptist Curch and living in Nashville, Nelia was 85 years old and a widow when she died on May 27, 1958 at Davidson County Hospital, where she had been for two weeks.

Survivors included daughters Mrs Mary St. Charles in Georgia, Mrs Maggie Biggerstaff of Nashville, Mrs Mai Nolen at Clarksville, Tennessee and Mrs Beatrice Fendel in East Point, Georgia, sons Emmett E Nicholson of Nashville and John Nicholson at Pensacola, Florida, brothers Joe Herald in Birmingham, Alabama and Robert Herald of San Francisco, California, sisters Mrs Docia Collins and Mrs Alice Nicholson at Pleasantview, Tennessee, twelve grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services were held on May 29th at Cosmopolitan Funeral Home, and burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery, Nashville.

Much of the above is from her Death Certificate, with Mrs E E Nicholson of 1515 10th Avenue North as the informant. Additional information is from her published obituary in NASHVILLE BANNER on May 28, 1958.
